Drone Photography Tips for Real Estate Agents

Who knew that advancements in aviation would factor into one of today’s top real estate trends? Use these helpful tips to make drone photography a valuable part of your marketing tools.

Tips for Real Estate Drone Photography

1. Create the setting.

Candid shots are great for capturing family and friends, but not so good when it comes to real estate. Before you begin shooting, make sure the exterior of the house is clean and damage-free. Don’t forget to mow the lawn and do other landscaping touch-ups for an attractive “frame” to your photos.

2. Make use of natural light.

Natural light usually shows properties to their best advantage, but consider the timing. Sunsets and sunrises can provide a stunning background, but watch for shadows that can ruin your carefully composed shots.

3. Select strategic focal points.

Drone photography offers the benefit of all-encompassing shots that were previously difficult or impossible to get. You can also use lighting, framing and other tricks to draw the viewer’s attention to a property’s highlights, such as an outdoor pool or expansive balconies.

4. Use a wide range of shots and angles.

Don’t become so enamored with the novelty of aerial photos that you forget other aspects. Be sure to incorporate lower-level shots of the details that make the house special. There’s no such thing as too many photos, but not enough is a real possibility without planning.

5. Study other photographs.

As with any creative endeavor, you can gain inspiration for drone photography from the works of others. Study photos whenever possible, taking note of what works and what doesn’t.
