Top-Earning Agents Spend More on Real Estate Technology Tools

There appears to be a direct relationship between earnings and the amount of time and money Realtors spend on updating their real estate sites and social media accounts.

Real estate technology tools the secret weapons that propel top-earning real estate agents to the top of their markets. A new Inman study found that real estate agents who earn the most — $100,000 or more annually — spend more on real estate technology and internet marketing than agents that earn between $30,000 and $50,000. There appears to be a direct relationship between earnings and the amount of time and money Realtors spend on updating their real estate sites and social media accounts.

Some of the study’s findings were not particularly surprising. Top-earning Realtors worked longer hours, closed more transactions, and enjoyed higher commission splits. Hard work is usually a factor in business success; however, the revelation that real estate technology plays a far more prominent role in financial success than suspected surprised many people in the real estate industry, although it shouldn’t.

Shoppers are moving online and they’re going mobile — and home buyers and home sellers are no exception. Online retail sales surpassed in-store sales for the first time during the 2011 holiday shopping season, and advertisers are following their customers online. By the end of 2012, expenditures on internet marketing are expected to surpass those for print advertising for the first time.

Mobile technology and social media are reshaping the consumer marketplace. Sales of smartphones and tablet computers grew 58% last year and social media use increased by 43%. The average U.S. web user spends about 8 hours a month on Facebook alone! Savvy marketers know that you have to put your message where customers will see it. It’s a lesson not lost on top-earning real estate agents.

To attract the attention of today’s real estate buyers and sellers, real estate agents need to put the latest tech tools to work for them. Mobile websites, Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, listing domains, QR code generators, listing promotions, and YouTube videos are just a few of the dynamic, interactive real estate technology tools available — and top-earning Realtors are making use of all of them!
